DCDC Secures Funding to Expand Kidney Care in India

innovent blog post DCDC raises funding

Delhi-based DCDC Kidney Care has secured Rs 150 crore in funding from Singapore-based ABC Impact, an Asia-focused impact investor backed by Temasek. This investment marks a crucial step in addressing the pressing needs of millions of Indians suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Expanding Reach, Bridging Gaps

DCDC Kidney Care, established in 2009, operates over 200 dialysis centres throughout India through public-private partnerships and standalone clinics. The company facilitates nearly 100,000 dialysis sessions monthly, demonstrating its significant role in the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. However, with ESRD affecting over 1.5 million people nationwide, the demand for accessible and affordable dialysis services remains high. Many patients endure long journeys, sometimes exceeding 50 kilometres, to receive essential treatment.

The newly acquired funding will enable DCDC to establish more than 150 additional clinics in the coming months. This expansion aims to bring quality dialysis care closer to patient’s homes, reducing the burden of travel and improving treatment adherence.

Addressing Critical Healthcare Challenges

The prevalence of ESRD in India presents a significant healthcare challenge. High costs, inconsistent care, and limited facilities create substantial barriers, particularly for low-income families who struggle to sustain long-term treatment. DCDC Kidney Care is addressing these challenges head-on by strategically expanding its network.

“This investment from ABC Impact will help enhance our efforts to transform kidney care in India,” stated Aseem Garg, Founder and CEO of DCDC. “With this investment, we plan to expand our network of company-owned centres, ensuring last-mile connectivity and making high-quality dialysis care accessible closer to patients’ homes.”

Impact-Driven Investment for Sustainable Healthcare

ABC Impact’s decision to invest in DCDC Kidney Care underscores the growing recognition of the need for sustainable and impactful healthcare solutions. Sugandhi Matta, Chief Impact Officer at ABC Impact, highlighted the alignment of DCDC’s model with their commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.

“With the growing burden of kidney disease in India, increasing access to quality dialysis is both a healthcare and economic necessity,” said Sugandhi Matta. “DCDC’s proven model of expanding affordable dialysis services aligns with our commitment to improving healthcare outcomes while ensuring long-term sustainability.”

Strong Backing for a Vital Mission

DCDC Kidney Care’s mission is further strengthened by its existing shareholders, which include the Danish government-owned investment fund IFU and the Asian Development Bank. IFU’s investment, made through the Danish SDG Investment Fund, reflects the global recognition of DCDC’s critical role in addressing healthcare disparities.

This substantial funding and the backing of reputable investors will enable DCDC Kidney Care to significantly expand its operations, bringing essential dialysis services to underserved communities across India. By reducing travel distances and ensuring consistent, high-quality care, DCDC is poised to make a profound impact on the lives of millions.
