Sarla Aviation Nets $10 Mn To Build Flying Taxis

To significantly advance the emerging urban air mobility sector., Sarla Aviation, an Indian aerospace startup, has secured $10 million (around INR 86.5 Crore) in a Series A1 funding round. This investment will fuel the company’s ambitious plans to develop and deploy a fleet of flying taxis, promising to revolutionize urban transportation.

Led by Accel, the funding round also witnessed participation from a distinguished roster of angel investors, including prominent figures like Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Swiggy co-founder Sriharsha Majety, Urban Company’s co-founder and CEO Abhiraj Singh Bhal, and Tracxn co-founder Abhishek Goyal. This strong backing from industry leaders underscores the immense potential and investor confidence in Sarla Aviation’s vision. 

Fueling Growth and Innovation

Sarla Aviation intends to leverage this funding to accelerate its development trajectory. Key priorities include:

  • Prototype Development: The company will utilize the funds to further refine and advance its flying taxi prototype. A significant milestone is imminent, with the prototype set to be unveiled at the prestigious Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in Delhi NCR on Friday, January 17th. This public unveiling will mark a crucial step towards demonstrating the technological feasibility and showcasing the potential of urban air mobility in India.   
  • R&D Center Establishment: A substantial portion of the funding will be dedicated to establishing a state-of-the-art research and development center. This center will serve as the nerve center for innovation, fostering cutting-edge research, and attracting top talent in aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, and other relevant fields.
  • Team Expansion: To effectively execute its ambitious roadmap, Sarla Aviation will significantly expand its workforce. This will involve hiring top-tier engineers, pilots, and other skilled professionals to join the company’s growing team.
  • Commercial Launch on the Horizon: With a steadfast focus on achieving its goals, Sarla Aviation aims to launch its first commercial flying taxi service by 2028. This ambitious timeline reflects the company’s determination to bring this transformative technology to market swiftly and revolutionize urban transportation.
